Allah takes the knowledge away from the people not by stamping out the knowledge from man’s heard or min’d but He does it by depriving them of the scholars. When there are no more scholars, people appoints ignorants in authority to take advice on matters of opinion, as they give a decision out of ignorance on a matter of canon law, they cause others go astray while they are gone astray themselves (Buhari, ilim, 34)

As narrated by Abu Hurairah (r.a) Dur prophet Mohammad (Pbuh) said: “ when a man dies his records of good deeds are ceased and desisted save three deeds which continue to acquire Divine recompense hereafter: “A charity that continues to acquire merit, usefull knowledge and an offspring who does good-deeds and pray for his forefathers(Müslim, vasiyet, 14)

When Allah Teala wishes to elevate community, He increases the number of scholars and decreases the ignorants. When a scholar speaks he will be listened to and supported, but when an ignorant speaks, he will be despised. Inversily, when Allah Teâlâ wishes to degrade a community, He increases the number of ignorants and decreases the scholars. When an ignorant speaks, he will find supporters for himself but when a scholar speaks they ridicule him(Câmiu’s-Sağir)

PRESENTATION

The Foundation for research in Islamic Sciences was founded by a group of businessmen and academicians in 1970. Since its foundation, ISAV has set to work in order to find solutions to the existing problems and matters which mainly concern our nation, secondarily the whole Muslim world: Through the help of Allah, we took the step in order to throw up valuable scholars, thinkers and researchers whom we needed and particularly to provide them with ways and means allowing to conduct their academic work on Islamic field and finally to present these researches to the public use.

The Foundation, for the realisation of its goal, arranges symposiums nationaly and internationally and later, these papers and discussions are published in a book and are ultimately presented the public use.

This Fondation is the property not only of the place it is located or of the nation who created it, but of the whole world of science as well. Because of this, our institute keeps ıts doors open for every ındividual and every establishment working in the same area, regardless of their identities, and is always ready to cooperate with them on any scientific area and also is prepared accepting any contiributions and support, whether it is materal or spiritual, or scientifical.

Our foundation has the quality of being the first organization set up within its range to carry on research on scientific matters. It seems as though ıt has not been attained to our muslim people to express sufficiently the importance and the role of the scientists for the future of a nation with that the number of fellow organizations has not yet reached to a satisfactory level. And yet, recently we have seen some foundations were being set up that try to build up establishments and support scientists or protect those who are in search of knowledge. That causes to increase our hopes for the future.

Our foundation; among others, have been specialized in arranging national and international symposiums. Within the last twenty five year, despite many difficulties, it realized fiftyone symposiums twelve of which are international. In each of these meetings, a matter which concerns our people in particular and whole muslims in general is taken in hand. The problem is seen in all respects by the scientists concerned. The outcome of the research is brought into a paper separately by each scholar and later this ıs discussed by another scholar.

In addition to these, our foundation has been arranging some countrywide speciality groups attended by specialists in their own area and the papers prepared are discussed or reviewed by other competent scientists. All the minutes of the meeting are gathered in a book to be published.

This brochure was prepared in order to inform interested people about the subject matters of the meetings attained so far and that to publicize our foundation.

THE OBJECTİVES OF THE FOUNDATİON

- To throw up valuable scholars, thinkers and researchers in Islamic sciences; to provide working conditions and facilities for them particularly; and to have them do rescarch in the field of Islamic sciences;

- To set up rescarch centers in order to throw up rescarchers, to set up libraries, to sponsor scholars to go abroad in order to do research, to grant scholarships for research.
- to establish relations with scientific organizations in abroad, to organize seminars both nationally and internationly, congresses and conferences; to send researchers to the scientifical meeting ın abroad.

- To set up educational and training centers at all level, and also non-profit higher educational institutions and some other units affiliated to them, to grant scholarships to those who are doing their undergraduate and doctorate studies.

- To publish scientific studies and organize book- shows and book stores, to mount printing machines and publish newspapers, magazines and other literary materials;

- To eveluate both national and international research carried on in Islamic sciences field. Those deemed important shall be translated into Turkish and then be published; to publish all the papers of symposiums arranged by the foundation by putting them into other foreign languages.

- To specify the influence and the role which islamic scholars played in forming up and promotion of today’s civilization.

THE SHORT HİSTORY OF THE FOUNDRATION

The Foundation for Research in Islamic Sciences was founded in 1970 by 48 businessmen and scientists. Through the written sentence numbered: 1970/750 and dated: 20.OCT. 1970, the foundation was registered in and announced in Official Gazette on 7 AUG 1971, thus starting its activities at the address: İstanbul, Laleli, Ordu Cd. No: 210/2

As the Foundation did not have a detached office building, activities were carried out in different addresses during the years of 1976 thru 1985. we used to lease spaces to house ourselves, but they were not suitable for working. We finally purchased a five story building at Fatih Kıztaşı Kamilpaşa Sk. No. 7, with other worlds

To facilitate and to expedite the work conducted by the researchers, our foundation supplied a sufficient number of computers to put them into the service of the researchers.

Board of Founders are constituted chosen by the people who had donated real assest and are also the signatories of the charter.

THE ACTIVITIES OF THE FOUNDATION

I- SYMPOSIUM:
By reason of our Foundatıon being a scientifical research intstitute, it has concentrated its overall activities on area of science. But, our Foundatıon has also been giving support to the projects and research which try to find solutions to the problems encountered in social life. Keeping in view the solutions that Islam brought to the problems of daily life. Along with that, the Foundatıon ıtself gets research done according to the changing conditions of life.
The subjects desired to be researched by the Board of Trustees are reviewed under the supervision and coordination of a scientist. In relation with the subject chosen, the prominant scholars from all over the world are asked to prepare a paper. In order to discuss all the papers on a scientifical base, symposiums are arranged. The papers are then put in the process of being perfected by the criticisms and suplementary standpoints of other secientists.

Our Foundation has been specialized in arranging symposiums national and international level and by overcoming many difficulties and impossiblities, the Foundation has been successful to realize 15 symposiums within the last twenty-five years 12 of which are international. In the end of the discussions, the whole of the papers are put together and published in a book.

For the symposiums fulfilled so far, our Foundation invited a lot of scholars who are specialist in their own area.

Our Foundation, because of the rapid changes and improvements, tries, ahead of time to determine the problems which our nation might fall in and also tries to study on these problems and finally to publish the solutions reached.

THE LIBRARY OF THE FOUNDATION
The library is composed of the books donated by the founders during the installation and also other selected books provided later on. It has a special character in respect to Arabic source books. One flat of the building has been assigned for the library. About four thousand books are available written in Arabic, Turkish and English languages. A cathologue is prepared for these books and was put in the service of the researchers.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Seminars:
In our Foundation, some seminars and courses have been organized in diffent areas of Islamic sciences where scholars and researchers felt a need. Through these seminars conducted by scholars who are the specialists in their areas, it is aimed at to train recearchers in the field of Islam.
The following are the presently ongoing seminars.

a) Seminars on Exegesis:
In this seminar conducted by Prof. Dr. Ali ÖZEK or another teaching staff from the Faculty of Teology, the interpretation of Keşşaf has been concluded. The seminar was carried on during the months of October thru june and on Saturdays only. As of 2007, the subject interpretation is being practiced.

b) Seminar on Hadith:
The seminar which has been conducted by a teacher of Hadith assigned upon the approval of the Board of Trustees, is continued during the months of October thru June and on Saturdays only.

c) Seminar on Islamic Law(Fıkh):
The seminar which has been conducted by a teacher of “Fıkh” assigned upon the approval of the Board of trustees, is continued during the months of October thru June and on Saturdays only.

d) English Courses:
For doctorate and master students, these courses are being arranged with a view to improve their English knowledge. The courses are being given during the month of October thru Junie, on Fridays from 14.00 thru 17.00 hrs and on Saturdays at 09.00 thru 12.00 hrs.

CONSULTATIVE MEETINGS
In the auditorium of the Foundation, in times of need, scholars who are a specialist at their field are invited to gather and within an agenda, the opinions of the participants are taken. The subjects of our symposiums are generally detedmined by these types of consultive meetings.

FRIDAY TALKS
Through the participation of our scholars, generally on Friday nights and when needed, scientifical talksa re carried on at the Foundation center and very important and current issues are discussed and way outs are sought.
